Colonia AKTIV
Köln aktiv erleben!
Geführte Fahrradtouren durch Köln seit 2014
Who and what is actually behind Colonia Aktiv?
Colonia Aktiv is a young tourism company based in Cologne’s Eigelstein district. Founded by owner Peter Unkelbach in 2014, the business started out small with just 50 bicycles. Since then, both the fleet—now comprising over 100 city bikes, trekking bikes, e-bikes, and tandems—and the team have grown significantly: Colonia Aktiv consists of five permanent staff members who welcome you at the shop, as well as a large pool of freelancers who guide you safely and expertly through the streets of Cologne, dedicated to ensuring you have an unforgettable day.
The Colonia Aktiv Team introduces itself
Peter Unkelbach
I grew up in Cologne, and even as a child, I was thrilled whenever my family drove into the city—famous for its cathedral—for shopping or cultural events. The magnificent cathedral, the many shops, and the colorful Carnival always fascinated me. After completing my military service and studying geography in Trier and Riga, I returned to the Rhine. I have been deeply engaged with the historical geography of Cologne since my university thesis. I have been leading guided bicycle tours of the city since 2011—initially as a student job, and since 2012 under the “Colonia Aktiv” banner. These tours allow me to share my knowledge about the origins of this Rhine metropolis, combine it with an active, sociable outdoor pursuit, and meet people from all over the world.
Our Tourguides
In addition to the team that welcomes you at the shop, many other hands contribute to the success of Colonia Aktiv. Our team of guides leads you through the city in German, English, Dutch, and sometimes even French or the local Kölsch dialect—making every guided bike tour of Cologne unique and giving each of our tours a truly personal touch!
