Christmas in Cologne!
You start your tour in the shadow of the medieval Eigelstein archway, explore the authentic Agnesviertel and the northern foothills of the Grüngürtel. Here you will find the former Fort X, a “remnant” of Cologne’s fortifications. With a view of the Rhine, the cathedral and the illuminated old town, you cycle on over the Zoo Bridge, through the Rhine Park and along the Rhine Promenade before leaving the so-called “wrong side of the Rhine” over the Hohenzollern Bridge and heading back to the old town – a special experience at Christmas time!
Gingerbread, fairies and mulled wine
The most beautiful and cosy Christmas markets await you in the medieval city centre of Cologne. Alter Markt and Heumarkt have been transformed into “Heinzel’s Winter Fairy Tale”, a fabulous winter wonderland adorned with numerous stalls. There are all kinds of things to try: Mulled wine, gingerbread, pastries and biscuits, waffles, potato pancakes, and much more – your tour will be a culinary highlight! And when you’re refreshed, it’s even easier to stroll past the beautifully decorated wooden stalls and buy one or two handmade souvenirs from Cologne.
Christmas in the Rheinau Harbor
Your tour will then take you to the Rheinauhafen and the Hafenweihnachtsmarkt – a market with a special flair in the immediate vicinity of the Chocolate Museum and the imposing Kranhäuser. Your guide will be sure to explain a lot about German Christmas traditions and have a few insider tips ready for unique Christmas treasures you shouldn’t miss.
On the way back to the Eigelstein, we meander through the small alleys of the old town, and of course a detour to the cathedral, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals, is not to be missed – an absolute highlight of this Cologne bike tour! At Christmas time, however, a very special highlight awaits you on the so-called “Domplatte”: the Advent Village at the Cathedral, the largest Christmas market in the city! You will be immersed once again in unique customs, traditions and Christmas stories!
